DID YOU KNOW?

According to a study by Dove, only 4% of women thought they were beautiful, while approximately 70% of women and girls in the UK believed the media’s portrayal of impractical beauty standards fueled their appearance anxieties.

WHAT INFLUENCES OUR THOUGHTS?

As a nation, we are swamped with images from different types of media. These images tend to be of what the general public now consider as beautiful; slim, tall, long hair and pale skin tone. This has a huge impact on how adults largely women and young girls see themselves, far from perfection this adds another burden to life; trying to be more like what we see in the media. This could lead to petty crime, such as stealing products or debt, taking out loans to pay for surgery all to help enhance natural beauty.

Body image problems has been an issue for many centuries now, especially with the rapid constant shifts in ideal body types. Body image was normally set by cultural beliefs, genders, or social environment, but today it is mostly fashion and media industries that has the greatest influences in what is beautiful.

Do you agree or disagree?

We would like to help people determine what they feel their ideal body image is, without being heavily influence by the media.
